Bottling Team Member

Stuarts Draft, Virginia

Creambrook Farm is a grass-based dairy with its cows on pasture for 365 days per year. We are looking for a part-time Bottling Team Member for the creamery located in Stuarts Draft, VA.

You would be considered a valuable part of our team to ensure milk products are safely and accurately bottled and packaged according to high quality standards in preparation for weekly deliveries to drop sites across Virginia for our herd share members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the bottling and production of dairy products, including: whole milk, heavy cream, kefir, and butter.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the creamery supervisor or other members of the Creambrook Farm leadership team.

  • Set up and take down equipment.

  • Maintain a smooth and efficient workflow during the bottling and production process.

  • Maintain and meet high standards for quality control (bottles are clean and filled accurately, caps are placed on bottles correctly, filled bottles look presentable, milk crates are cleaned, etc.)

  • Responsible for safely operating and handling equipment and machinery in the bottling room.

  • Clean equipment in a proper and timely manner to ensure safety and quality.

  • Clean bottling room while maintaining high standards.

  • Clean and organize the cooler.

  • Assist with maintaining inventory / supplies and notifying the appropriate person when items are low.

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  This position is a very active role that requires frequent walking, lifting, moving, pushing, and pulling objects up to 50 pounds.  Must be able to bend, lift, stoop, stretch, crawl, and other activities to perform job responsibilities.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  Use correct body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others.

Work environment:  This position requires inside work that will result in marked changes in temperatures.  Ability to stand, walk, and work on wet concrete for the entirety of the work shift.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to dust, fumes, odors, and airborne particles with limited exposure to chemical hazards.  This role uses bottling equipment and dollies.

Schedule This position’s schedule will include several shifts per week (up to 30 hours per week / up to 60 hours per pay period).  Work hours will typically be scheduled between the hours of 7 AM - 5 PM on weekdays, and the length of shifts will vary based on bottling volume and products.  Occasional evenings and/or Saturdays may be required based upon bottling and staffing needs.

CDL Milk Hauler / Distribution Driver

Stuarts Draft, Virginia

Our family-owned raw milk farm, located in Middlebrook, VA, is looking for an experienced full-time CDL Milk Hauler / Distribution Driver.  Creambrook Farm is a grass-based dairy serving its herd share members across Virginia.

You would be an integral part of our team to ensure milk is delivered from farm pickup to the creamery (approximately 15 miles away), while ensuring high expectations are met regarding safety and product quality & integrity.  This position would also work as a distribution driver to load, deliver, and unload raw milk bottled products to approximately 10-15 drops per route across Virginia, based on staffing needs.  As a distribution driver, you would have the opportunity to build relationships with staff members at our drop-off sites as well as our herd share members using a positive, friendly, and professional approach.  

Job responsibilities:

  • Operate the tanker truck to transport raw milk from farm to creamery while ensuring highest standards of safety, product quality, and efficiency are met.

  • Hook and unhook truck and trailer.

  • Lift, connect hoses, and disconnect hoses.

  • Properly perform tank wash.

  • Load, deliver, and unload the accurate number of raw milk products to designated drop-offs within the expected time frame. 

  • Provide timely communication with direct supervisor and/or the Creambrook admin. team regarding delivery delays / updates.

  • Maintain accurate delivery records.  

  • Establish positive relationships and maintain a professional rapport with hosts and their staff at drop-offs.

  • Clean / maintain fridges at drop-off sites as needed.

  • Promote Creambrook Farm’s brand and business integrity.

  • Commitment to product quality and contribute to best practices in maintaining or reaching goals.  

  • Keep delivery trucks clean inside and out, and complete light maintenance on a routine basis.

  • Complete vehicle safety operation for loading/unloading. 

  • Follow best safety practices at all times.

  • Complete preliminary check of trailer / delivery truck before beginning the route on a daily basis.

  • Report any minor or major traffic violations immediately to the direct supervisor, including those that may occur in the delivery truck / tanker and/or in a personal vehicle. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or Creambrook manager.

Job requirements: 

  • Must have and be able to maintain an active CDL Driver’s License in good standing with tanker endorsement.

  • 12-months verifiable driving experience with a tractor trailer within the past 5 years is preferred.

  • Must have clean MVR and driving experience within the past 7 years, and maintain an acceptable driving record during employment.

  • Must be able to pass DOT-regulated drug testing for pre-employment and also random testing.  

  • Strong attention to detail and counting inventory of products.

Work environment:  This position requires outside work and work inside a walk-in cooler that will result in marked changes in temperatures.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, odors, and airborne particles with limited exposure to chemical hazards and mechanical equipment.  This role uses standard office equipment such as a computer, printer, and phone.  

Schedule This position will typically be scheduled 30-40 hours per week (or 60-80 hours per pay period).  As a milk hauler from farm to creamery, the schedule will include a minimum of 3 shifts per week, approximately from 4 PM - 8 PM.   As a distribution driver, this position will be scheduled to work a minimum of one shift (route) per week, based upon staffing needs, with shifts dispatching from the creamery between 3:30 AM - 7:30 AM.  Occasional evening and Saturday work may be necessary to effectively complete the requirements of this position.  


Compensation:

  • Hourly (non-exempt status), and starting hourly rate will be based on previous experiences and qualifications

Assistant Herdsman Position

Middlebrook, Virginia

Our family-owned raw milk farm, located in Middlebrook, VA, is looking for a full-time Assistant Herdsman. Creambrook Farm is a grass-based dairy with its cows on pasture for 365 days per year. Responsibilities include participating in the daily operations of our farm and meeting high quality standards during milking. Job responsibilities:

● Prepping and milking cows up to two times daily in the milking parlor, on a rotating schedule including some weekends and holidays.

● Assist with pasture rotation / moving of the herd.

● Assist with observing the herd for signs of injury or illness and promptly reporting any signs to the direct supervisor or owner.

● Assist with cow heat detection and artificial insemination breeding.

● Assist with calves’ feeding and health detection.

● Assist with herd record-keeping and ID of animals.

● Operate and maintain farm equipment.

● Assist with milking parlor, scheduled maintenance repairs, and observing for standards

compliance.

● Assist with pasture crop / field work.

● Assist with maintaining fencing.

● Assist with farm maintenance.

● Complete other responsibilities as assigned by direct supervisor and other Creambrook

leadership.

Job requirements:

● Looking for someone with a working knowledge in farming operations and/or large-animal experience, but prior experience is not required.

Schedule: This position is regularly required to work a rotating schedule, typically between the hours of 5 AM - 5:30 PM, including some weekends and holidays. Occasional evening work as necessary to effectively complete the requirements of this position.

Compensation:

● Compensation will be highly dependent on previous relatable experiences and qualifications.

● Exempt / hourly status.

● Potential opportunity to receive a retention bonus on an annual basis.

● Full-time employees (30+ hours per week or 60+ hours per pay period: Two weeks’ paid vacation (10 work days) per calendar year, prorated based upon hiring date.
